Back in the 1980s I used to do stone and tile/slate work on fireplace and wood stove hearths as a part time business. I always thought it would be fun to do some kind of interesting design built into one of those backgrounds. But that sort of work is expensive for the client and no one wanted to pay for a pig in a poke. However, all these years later I am still interested in such things and our daughters are now all grown up and moved away and I will be retiring in just a few more years. So I now have the time to experiment. A while back I began thinking about doing mosaics as an extension of my earlier wishes of doing something along these lines that would be interesting and, presumably, fun. I found mosaic to be a very versatile medium allowing an incredible range of possibilities, and a LOT less work than stone. So here are some of my first pieces.
To date I am still experimenting. I have used various glass wall tiles, ceramic wall tiles, and a variety of mosaic tiles such as Prism, aura metallic, smalti, sigris iridium, and mosaic marbles.
